3 winter layering looks

We are thrilled to have gotten a Bay Area version of winter this year. For almost the last 2 years we've looked longingly at a closet full of knits and outerwear as all we were able to grab was a light top layer for the umpteenth time.

Over the past couple of months, a combination of the following looks below has been our uniform. Blending splurge items with bargain buys and vintage staples, take a peek below at our favorite winter 15/16 stylings.

We love this shearling on shearling look for chillier days. This Jerome Dreyfuss pouch happens to perfectly fit an iPad, making it ideal to pop under your arm while at work. This Old Navy coat was our bargain of the season, with a fashion forward texture and silhouette in a neutral color that literally goes with everything. Especially these James Jeans from our collection of black skinnies.

It wouldn't be us without some form of pattern thrown in. Leopard print is a timeless classic and this snug, O/S scarf keeps us warm while adding a hint of dimension to this mostly neutral ensemble.

A cozy sweatshirt, like this one from Sky Oak. co, over perfectly worn in Levi's with comfy kicks, we're wearing our Stan Smiths here, and a statement outer layer like this Isabel Marant Ètoile coat make for an equal parts style and comfort forward casual Friday and/or weekend friendly look. Pair with a go-to purse, this vintage woven leather bucket bag is a staple in our closet, and you're ready to go.

If this feels a little too casual, drop the slogan sweatshirt for a simple sweater and switch out the sneakers. A pair of sharp loafers, like these loves from Gucci, should do the trick to elevate this look and balance out the less formal layering to make this a little more work appropriate.

Dressing up doesn't have to be about bearing skin, or tottering in heels - especially when you're damn cold and curling up is all you want to do. Staying snug and making a statement is possible. Just ask Rachel Comey and her sweater coat. This be-fringed investment knitwear allows us to feel fancy and opulent but in a somewhat minimal and tomboy fashion.

Keeping the rest of the look simple by layering a thin black sweater, My Habit has had some lovely basic (and way affordable) black cashmere sweaters this year, dark skinnies and a simple shoe, like our vintage cropped cowboy booties, will allow a piece of statement knitwear to shine. Now just throw on a pair of sunglasses, ours are Thierry Lasry, get outside and brave the elements.
