"I just blew my tax return" spring maximalism
Wildly in love with the new Gucci of Alessandro Michele and the Rodarte X & Other Stories collab, I was dying to incorporate the pattern on pattern, texture on texture with embellishments on top maximalism aesthetic into my style rotation.
Back to that splurge, or let me rephrase, the first of my tax return enabled investment purchases - here's my version of the forever purse: a Gucci crossbody. With classic double G canvas, iconic webbing and the modern touch of the Alessandro Michele bee motif, this purse is both for now and forever.
And to reign this back in a hair, I paired a thrifted 70s red and blue plaid polyester blouse with a green plaid cotton midi skirt from Old Navy. Achieving that perfect pattern on pattern play of high fashion, but on a low budget. A half tuck ensures the blouse doesn't look too stuffy and my Topshop Boutique OS black leather jacket thrown over the top confirms that this maximalism look is still uber cas'.
OK, now back to investment pieces - pearl and gold stud embellished mid-heel Gucci "Peyton" pumps. I can't wait to grow old and wrinkly with these shoes, #lifegoals. So classic, so dripping in opulence, so comfy and so wearable, these also fall into the wear now and forever category that a good fashion splurge should.
And yeah, while double Gucci in most cases could very well be overkill, this is maximalism baby. So layer it, or whatever your style weakness is, on and strut.
The moral of this story?
1. Pile it on, wear it all - the more clashing, the better
2. Gucci goes great with Old Navy, never forget it
3. The 580 overpass at MacArthur and 14th Ave has fabulous lighting, and ivy!
